Adult Small Groups
ADULT SMALL GROUPS 6:00 - 7:30 Sunday Evenings
A Small Group is an intentional gathering of 5 to 12 (sometimes a few more) people who meet weekly — not just to be in a small group, but — for the purpose of growing as disciples of Jesus Christ. Groups include time for sharing, prayer, accountability, fellowship and study to help promote spiritual growth and a deeper understanding and application of the truths of the Bible.
Small groups are a place, in the life of the church where you can be known and get to know others, be challenged and challenge others in their faith, give and receive personal encouragement and show the world how the gospel transforms our relationships. "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:35)
Though our culture and our hearts often lead us into a go-it-alone mentality, God has designed the Christian life to be lived out in community.
"The Christian life is inescapably corporate…The ideal of the ‘omnicompetent Christian individual,’ able to meet every spiritual challenge and live a life of unbroken victory over sin and the devil…has driven many to a lonely struggle ending in despair and disillusionment, or, worse, the hypocrisy of a double-standard life.
The bulk of the New Testament teaching on the Christian life, including the major sections on holiness, occur in letters addressed to…groups, to churches. All the major exhortations to holy living are plural…" Bruce Milne, Know the Truth
We need each other! Honor one another (Romans 12:10), forgive one another (Eph. 4:2, 32), pray for and confess sins to one another (James 5:16), admonish and confront one another (Rom 15:14, Gal 6:1-6), stop gossiping and slandering (Gal 5:15) or being fake (Rom 12:9) with each other, warn one another (1 Thess 5:14), instruct one another (Col. 3:16), cheer and challenge one another (Heb. 3:13), bear burdens (Gal 6:2), share possessions (Acts 4:32) and submit to the needs (Eph. 5:21) of each other. "One anothering" takes place in community. Biblical "one anothering" is our vision for small groups.
