The purpose of Hixson Presbyterian Preschool is to provide a Christ-centered environment that allows children to grow and develop like Jesus in “wisdom and stature” and in “favor with God and man.” (Luke 2:52) The staff of the Preschool is committed to the child and his or her family. We know how formative these preschool years are and we desire to provide a loving, enriching atmosphere for the families we serve.

The Preschool offers a curriculum developed around themes utilizing learning centers and group activities. Learning centers are areas within the classroom that provide concrete experiences and opportunities which teach specific processes, skills and concepts. The themes provide an area from which to further teach and develop the child outside of the typical academic atmosphere.

In our Mother’s Day Out we provide infants with a loving, nurturing environment while Mom or Dad is able to have a morning to refresh and recharge.

Our Preschool program serves one to pre-K four and five year olds. We provide one-year-olds with simple introductions to colors, shapes and the alphabet. They do crafts, have story-time and play-time. This is a fun opportunity to begin learning in a social setting.

Our two and three year old programs have theme-based academic lessons, activities and crafts. They explore many science and math concepts. Playtime is focused around learning centers. Music, Art, Bible and a strong literary focus round out the cirriculum. The children grow in their social development as they learn how to share, cooperate and make friends.

Our four-year-old program is an academic program which prepares the children for success in kindergarten. The class focuses on Phonics, Math, Science, Social Studies, Art and learning center play. The children have Bible and Spanish enrichment classes. They will also learn the dynamics of school life: waiting their turn, listening to the teacher, standing in line and following directions.
